Packaging materials and board selection

How paperboard, corrugated board and rigid board differ in construction and typical packaging applications.

Choosing a packaging board requires balancing protection, appearance, print performance, assembly, weight and cost. Material selection should follow the product and its intended use.

Folding carton board: Paperboard grades differ in stiffness, print surface and folding performance. Thickness alone does not establish suitability for a particular product.

Corrugated board: Flute profile, liners and board grade influence cushioning and compression performance. Product weight, stacking and transport conditions must be considered together.

Rigid board: Wrapped rigid board can provide a substantial presentation format, but construction, covering material and inserts affect performance and cost.

Environmental information: Recycled content, recyclability and certification claims should be checked against the exact materials, coatings and supply chain. Do not assume these properties from a broad material category.

For a quotation: Supply the product dimensions and weight, intended use, distribution conditions, quantities, print expectations and any specific material requirements.
